kabhe Officers Election: Call for Nominations

Dear KABHE Members,

CALLING STRONG LEADERS. In 2021, Kentucky Association of Blacks in Higher Education (KABHE) will celebrate its 38th Anniversary. We have made significant progress in these years to fulfill the organization mission and goals. It is important that we have the leadership to continue these efforts.

In April of this year, at our Virtual Annual Conference, we will elect KABHE officers. We invite you to take part in the governance of KABHE by nominating qualified candidates for the positions of:

  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Northwest Regional Representative
  • Southwest Regional Representative
  • Historian

Any registered KABHE member is eligible to nominate KABHE members for Officer positions. If you are not yet a registered member, Click here to register for the 2021 Virtual Annual Conference

The officers shall be elected by the general membership at our Annual Meeting Conference. Newly elected officers will be sworn in and  shall take office immediately following the Conference meeting. Officers should prepare to stay for an Executive Committee meeting following the meeting and swearing ceremony to receive pertinent information. The term of office for all executives shall be two years based on a staggered system. 

In order to be printed on the election ballot, social media, KABHE website and all other printed advertisements all nominations must be received by midnight EST on March 19, 2021. All other candidates may be nominated from the floor during the election process. Nominations will be acknowledged by email within 5 business days.

Timeline:
Nominations are due March 19th
Applications of candidates are Due April 2nd
Elections will take place April 14th - April 16th

Please contact Carlous Yates at Yatesc6@nku.edu, to be included on the ballot slate during the election process. More information is forthcoming.

The Nominating Committee will actively search for qualified candidates to submit their names for nomination, but the committee will not endorse any particular candidate. The committee will ensure that all nominations are on time, complete, and meets the nomination criteria. The slate of candidates will be posted within three weeks of close date. The Committee will take steps to provide members with as much information as possible about the candidates and access to them before the election takes place in April. Any candidate nominated by a KABHE member who agrees to the nomination and meets the proposed criteria will be placed on the ballot.

Criteria for candidates to be placed on the ballot include:

  1. A paid member of KABHE for at least 1-year
  2. Commitment to serve a 2-year term
  3. Currently registered and in attendance at the annual conference
  4. Must be able to attend meetings and/or travel
